After spending all day yesterday exploring the surrounding area, we spent today letting our travelers enjoy all that our host town of Tropea has to offer. And today we were lucky enough to be in Tropea on the day of their weekly market! While certainly not the largest one we’ll visit, it shows you how the locals utilize these markets for their weekly shopping – everything from fresh produce and seafood to laundry detergent! And, in line with that, we gathered all the makings for an amazing picnic lunch, which we enjoyed on the sunny patio at our hotel.
Following lunch, we headed down to the center of town for a special treat – a visit to the “Shakerati” – an artisan tartufo maker who makes this heavenly ice cream treat as you wait.
The afternoon was free for those who wanted to explore their own “off the beaten path” spots – which even included a dip in the sea for a few! We caught up on everyone’s afternoon over dinner at a restaurant that is an easy favorite for our guides. Restaurant owner Salvatore did not disappoint as we were inundated with antipasti – at least 10 different dishes flying by – plus pizza, two types of pasta, and then two amazing dolci. One of which was perfectly described by a guest as “Billow-y, pillow-y love lemon happiness.” I think that says it all.
Off to Sicilia tomorrow – buona notte!
